If you are trying to lose weight, and who isn’t, you have probably heard of the concept of intermittent fasting. It so happens that last month there were 246,000 searches for the term on Google alone, so that should give you an idea of its growing popularity.
Making this idea even more popular is the idea that many scientists and doctors are calling intermittent fasting the future of losing weight and keeping it off. It seems like just as is the case with everything else, books about intermittent fasting are exploding the shelves.
As you have probably already heard, intermittent fasting is a diet where you fast for a given period of time during a day, usually 16 to 20 hours. After this period is over, you can eat the remaining 4 to 8 hours of the day. Sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? And better yet, it works.
Some people, however, can’t be pleased, so in addition to their intermittent fasting, they add tricks or what could be called hacks to make their fasting even more effective in an effort to lose more weight or to do so faster. What follows is five of them that will drive you to even greater dieting glory.
If you can’t stand plain water, squeeze a little lemon or lime juice into your glass. This is help hold off the cravings. Other beverages you can have are tea, coffee, and other calorie-free drinks. Interestingly, after a few weeks, you will find that intermittent fasting will keep you from craving sugars altogether.
2. Take a little caffeine in the morning as well as in the early afternoon.
Caffeine in coffee and tea actually tends to make intermittent fasting a little easier because it curbs your appetite. Don’t overindulge since this may lead you to feeling stressed out. There are a lot of energy drinks out there that will give you your caffeine and an energy boost as well.
3. Avoid artificially flavored drinks. Diet sodas should be avoided like the plague. This includes anything else that uses artificial sweeteners such as Splenda and Sweet & Low. Many studies have shown that these kinds of sweeteners can actually stimulate your appetite just as a drink that contains sugar, causing you to overeat.
4. Don’t gorge yourself after your fasting period is over.
The amount of food that you eat when you break your fast should approximate the amount you eat normally. Overeating will only make you feel bad about yourself and will wipe out all of the benefits that you have achieved.
5. Be sure to minimize the foods that are rich in carbohydrates and sugars.
Intermittent fasting will allow you to loosen up in your eating habits, you should still be careful when it comes to things like bread, pasta, rice, and other carbohydrates and sugars as possible.
Focus your eating on protein from beef, fish, or pork, fruit, carbohydrates from vegetables, and sweet potatoes, Also enjoy healthy fats from foods such as almonds, avocados, fish, and olive oil.
